Licorice is also known as Liquorice, the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra (legume).

Licorice Extract is used to add flavor to food, tobacco, alcohol, licorice candy and cosmetics as well.

Licorice Extract helps in alleviating blood glucose levels, restore renal function and attenuated body-weight loss.

Licorice also has medicinal uses. It is highly beneficial for viral infections, stomach ulcers, hormonal imbalance, anti bacterial, asthma, athlete’s foot, baldness, body odor, bursitis, cancer sores, chronic exhaustion, coughs, dandruff, emphysema, gout, heartburn, fungal infections, ulcers, liver troubles, Lyme disease, menopause, psoriasis, shingles, sore throat, tendinitis, arthritis, tuberculosis, ulcers, yeast infections and other infections.

Licorice has positive effects on T-cells which are then transferable to other animals with positive results against influenza - thus it can be used to prepare a vaccine, reduces permeability of cell membranes to HIV virus. It is also used in treatment of Hepatitis and herpes Simplex virus (inactivates herpes simplex particles irreversibly).

Licorice root contains a substance called "Glabridin" which inhibits melanogenesis (the natural skin-tanning process).
