Andrographis (Kalmegh) Extract:


Andrographis paniculata is a bitter tasting annual plant, referred to as the “King of Bitters.” It has white-purple flowers and it is native to Asia and India where it has been valued for centuries for its numerous medicinal benefits. It has been traditionally used to treat infections and some diseases in Southern Asia and mostly the leaves and roots were used for medicinal purposes.

According to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the active ingredient in Andrographis is Andrographolides. The major constituent extracted from the leaves of the plant and is a bicyclic diterpenoid  lactone. It is also used for “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), and prevention of heart disease and diabetes.

Andrographis paniculata Extract has shown anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-parasitic properties which makes it an essential herb in the treatment of various infections. Andrographis paniculata can be used in the treatment of symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections.

Andrographis might stimulate the immune system. It may improve the blood cell counts in people with HIV, and help with allergies, antioxidant, andrographis has potent anti-inflammatory and antimalarial properties. It also has antimicrobial properties, meaning it can help to fight off and prevent infections from harmful microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria and fungi.

Andrographis is used to promote gallbladder and digestive health. It also helps to support and strengthen the liver and it is used in combination with other herbs in several Ayurvedic formulations to treat liver disorders. Andrographis Extract is also taken orally to neutralize the poisonous effects of snake venom.
